Description
When one or more legs of a frame or high peak tent can’t be staked, concrete blocks are used as ballast to weigh down the tent. Our blocks are 500 lbs. each. Generally speaking, 10-wide and 15-wide tents require 1 block per leg. 20-wide tents require 2 blocks per leg on corners and one block on all middle legs. 30-wide tents require 2 blocks on every leg. Pole tents cannot use blocks as ballast at all, they must be staked.
As per American Rental Association (ARA) studies, ballast for commerical grade tents should be roughly 8-10 pounds of weight per square foot of tent coverage in fully exposed locations. So for example, a 20×20 tent is 400 sq/ft, so at 8-10 lbs. per sq/ft, you’ll need 3200-4000 pounds of weight, or 6-8 blocks. Less weight is needed in partially exposed situations, such as when a tent is setup close to a building that acts as a wind break, and more weight is needed when tent walls are added since they act like sails and require more weight to keep the tent safely anchored.
- Due to safety considerations, the number of blocks used to weigh down a tent is up to us to decide.
- Tents requiring a large number of blocks will require (and be charged for) a seperate delivery and pickup of blocks.
